DECCA Presents Topical Songs from The West Indian Island of Trinidad

Cette publication est pour rendre hommage au défunt blogue:

LISTENTOYOUREARS, qui publiait des documents sonores

très rares et précieux de musiques des Caraibes, d'Amérique

centrale et d'Amérique du sud. Ce coffret de 78t est absolument

magnifique, il contient des pièces qui ne se retrouvent

 nulle-part pour la majorités sur des compilations de calypso.

On y entends le grand Wilmoth Houdini, Attila the Hun, King Radio,

The Growler, The Lion ainsi que Boscoe Holders qui interprète des

chansons en français et aussi Moune de Rivel qui nous propose un

répertoire Antillais.

Calypso Capers (1956)

Voici une très belle compilation de calypso datant de 1956.

Les calypsos qu'on y entends sont un peu arrangés pour plaire

au marché Américain mais c'est tout de même excellent. On y

retrouve  le grand Wilmoth Houdini sur 6 pièces magnifiques

qui ont été enregistrées très probablement vers la fin des années

40. Les autres enregistrements semblent daté des années 50.

Ces pièces sont interprétés par The Monarchs, The Count of

Monte Cristo et Congo Bey. Je vous suggère l'écoute de l'album

 "Poor but Ambitious" de W. Houdini un survol très interressant

de sa carrière.
