Modern Indian Film Music (1960s)

Bollywood est le nom donné à l'industrie cinématographique indienne

basée à Mumbai (Bombay) et dont les films sont réalisés en hindî
(et en ourdou). Il s'agit de la composante la plus populaire du cinéma
indien, le plus important au monde en nombre de films tournés. Les
films de Bollywood, diffusés dans toute l’Inde, s’exportent dans le
monde entier, notamment dans les pays du Maghreb, du Moyen-
Orient et du sud-est asiatique.

Le terme « Bollywood » est un mot-valise combinant l'initiale du nom
 « Bombay » - ancien nom de la ville indienne appelée officiellement
Mumbai - et celui d'un autre symbole de l'industrie cinématographique,
en l'occurrence américaine : « Hollywood ». Il ne désigne pas un lieu
spécifique mais plutôt un genre cinématographique.

Dans cette compilation nous pouvons entendre les chanteurs parmi
les plus populaires de Bollywood: Mohamed Rafi, Mukesh,
Lata Mangeshkar et Kishore Kumar. Ces enregistrements ont été
réalisés en 1963 et 1964.
